Loose, redundant and hanging extra skin of the upper eyelids and wrinkled, puffy “bags” of the lower eyelids will make anyone look old and tired. People are often asked if they are tired, stressed or depressed, because of how their eyes look. Many patients use terms like “eyebag removal” or ask for help fixing their drooping eyelids. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift, can restore a younger and more alert appearance. An eyelid lift is often performed as a solitary procedure, because the eyes are such a focal point for how we interpret a person’s age and mood.
Eyelid Lift Consultation
Before choosing from your options for an eyelid lift, you will have a private, in-depth consultation with Dr. Back, who has earned a reputation as one of the best Doctors for cosmetic breast surgery in South Jersey. After an examination, he will review with you everything you want and need to know, and together you will discuss your goals and his recommendations. All the details of the procedure will be reviewed, and you will also have ample time for questions. ‘Before & After’ photos of our previous patients’ results are available to help new patients visualize the options available to them.
Eyelid Lift Procedure
This outpatient procedure usually takes about an hour for either the upper or lower eyelids to be rejuvenated. Most commonly, both the upper and lower eyelids are treated at the same time. This is a very sophisticated procedure, using very special and delicate instruments. A blepharoplasty is usually virtually painless post-op! The extra upper eyelid skin removal will tighten and smooth the skin as well as create a more open look to the eyes. The puffy bags of the lower lids are fat pockets that are typically removed without an external incision or scar. Swelling and bruising is common for the first day or so, but typically it resolves almost completely within a week.
Eyelid Lift Recovery
Cold compresses and head elevation are the mainstays. Gentle activity may be gradually increased and after a week has passed, the recovery is usually complete. Most patients will look great by this time and can begin to re-use their contact lenses and end all restrictions.
